LEGO is more prepared for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 than The Acolyte
The first trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 has revealed that the LEGO Group is more prepared for the threequel than The Acolyte.
After multiple teases in cities worldwide, Sonic the Hedgehog 3’s first trailer is finally here and as implied, Keanu Reeves is indeed voicing Shadow the Hedgehog. The stacked voice cast is almost as surprising as how prepared the LEGO Group is for the film over four 2024 models.
You can watch the trailer for yourself by clicking above, and it should remind you of 76995 Shadow’s Escape. This is thanks to the set including both the tank holding Shadow as well as a black motorcycle. The movie features a similar tank and motorcycle, but the bike isn’t quite the same as the Dark Rider. Still, there’s little doubt that the movie bike is intended to reference Shadow’s vehicle of choice.
Shadow’s minifigure in 76995 Shadow’s Escape also appears in 76999 Super Sonic vs. Egg Drillster, which just so happens to include another reference that demonstrates how prepared the LEGO Group is for the threequel. A portrait in the model includes Maria, who also appears in the new trailer. Without going into spoilers, this is likely coincidental since Maria plays a key role in Shadow’s backstory in the games.
Beyond these two builds, Shadow the Hedgehog also appears in both 77000 Shadow the Hedgehog and 40672 Knuckles & Shadow. 77000 Shadow the Hedgehog releases on October 1 while the third movie is planned for December 20, similar to the situation currently occurring with 75374 The Onyx Cinder and Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, coming on December 3.
That’s not the only comparison to be made with LEGO Star Wars though as it’s surprising to see that the LEGO Group is much more prepared for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 than they were for The Acolyte, which has just been cancelled after its first season.
To be fair, Shadow’s involvement in the third film has been known for a while and the presence of Maria, the motorcycle and more all align with common elements from Shadow’s backstory in the games. Still, you can’t deny that the LEGO Group are prepared either way.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 releases on December 20, 2024. You can pick up the Shadow the Hedgehog minifigure, which closely resembles the movie counterpart, in two sets now.
