LEGO Space gift-with-purchase rumoured to return in August 2024

A LEGO Space gift-with-purchase originally available at the beginning of 2024 is rumoured to be coming back in August, alongside a couple of polybags.

40712 Micro Rocket Launchpad was initially free to LEGO Insiders with orders above £180 / $200 / €200 from February 16 to 18. Its planned wider availability from February 19 to 25 (including to non-Insiders) then failed to take off, as the micro-model and its space babies had seemingly sold out. It now appears that the set hasn’t gone for good, though.

Brick Clicker reports that the 325-piece set will be available again in August, ‘very likely’ from the first day of the month – when dozens of new sets launch worldwide – with orders above £180 / $200. That’s good news for those who missed out the first time round, and bad news for anyone holding on to the freebie hoping to cash in.

Aftermarket prices for 40712 Micro Rocket Launchpad ballooned back in February to around £50 on eBay and from £35 on BrickLink, but have since settled down slightly to around £40 on eBay and £27 on BrickLink. It’s not surprising to see the model is still sought after: it’s a treasure trove for LEGO Classic Space fans, with micro models and two exclusive space babies (or micro astronauts) with new face prints.

Also rumoured to be available in August are a pair of LEGO DREAMZzz polybags, 30636 Z-Blob and Bunchu Spider Escape and 30660 Zoey’s Dream Jet Pack Booster, both of which will reportedly be free with orders around $50 specifically on the LEGO Group’s homegrown themes (so DREAMZzz, City, Friends, NINJAGO and so on).

With so many new LEGO sets launching on August 1, you shouldn’t have too much trouble reaching the threshold for 40712 Micro Rocket Launchpad if it does return, but you can start planning out your purchases by checking out the full list of new LEGO sets arriving next month.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
