LEGO Star Wars 75371 Chewbacca is perfect for a familiar droid

Compared to the likes of R2-D2 and BB-8, C-3PO has been short on LEGO Star Wars sets, but 75371 Chewbacca’s design could change that.

75371 Chewbacca is releasing on September 1 for £179.99 / $199.99 / €209.99 as the latest brick-built System LEGO Star Wars figure. It joins the likes of Yoda, Grogu, R2-D2 and a Porg. However, one crucial aspect of its design sets it apart from previous figures.

The humanoid shape of Chewbacca is unlike anything we’ve seen in LEGO Star Wars outside of a few constraction figures. Thanks to this, 75371 Chewbacca is the perfect foundation for a buildable C-3PO sculpture.

The golden droid has only had one buildable figure so far in the history of LEGO Star Wars – 8007 C-3PO. This Technic figure isn’t too lifelike due to the limits of the building system in 2001 but is still recognisable as the droid.

Should the concept of a buildable C-3PO figure be applied to the core design and foundation of 75371 Chewbacca, it could be a much more realistic LEGO interpretation of the droid.

The character is due for a counterpart to 75308 R2-D2, though a figure to scale would need to be high-priced to be an accurate size comparatively. Eschewing scale accuracy, 75371 Chewbacca offers a good alternative for C-3PO.

A buildable C-3PO inspired by 75371 Chewbacca could even integrate some drum-lacquered gold elements, similar to 76191 Infinity Gauntlet. Realistically it would likely use pearl gold or a mix of the two to keep production costs down, but either way, it could make for a convincing effect, much like Aniomylone has conceived with custom-chromed bricks.

Thanks to the robotic design of C-3PO, a figure of the character in the style of 75371 Chewbacca wouldn’t need to worry about a nightmarish face design either.

75371 Chewbacca is the latest buildable figure for LEGO Star Wars and can be yours starting from September 1. It’s not the only recent LEGO reveal with a design that has us thinking of other applications for LEGO Star Wars though.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
