LEGO Star Wars 75374 The Onyx Cinder is smaller than expected

LEGO Star Wars sets aren’t always to scale but it turns out that 75374 The Onyx Cinder is much smaller than the ship as seen in Skeleton Crew.

The first trailer for Star Wars: Skeleton Crew has revealed many details about the series coming to Disney+ on December 3. This added context is appreciated following the recent launch of 75374 The Onyx Cinder, which is based on the series.

While we’ve not got the best look at the series’ ship just yet, an interesting shot of its interior in the new trailer has revealed an important fact about the new set – it’s not even close to scale. The position of the cockpit and the angled shape to the right match with a section attached to the main body of 75374 The Onyx Cinder.

LEGO Star Wars sets aren’t often at the exact right scale compared to minifigures, but 75374 Skeleton Crew takes that to another level. The trailer demonstrates that the on-screen cockpit of the ship has room for two minifigures side by side and then some.

In 75374 The Onyx Cinder, a minifigure must lay down to fit in this space, revealing just how small the set is compared to the ship as it appears in Skeleton Crew. The new LEGO Star Wars set has one other interior space with four seats and while it was expected that the source material would feature a bigger interior, this scale suggests that there is much more to explore in the series.

The size of the Skeleton Crew ship compared to its set reminds us of a ship from another Disney+ series, first receiving a small out-of-scale model before being upgraded to a scale-accurate build.

The Mandalorian’s Razor Crest faced this same situation with 75292 The Razor Crest in 2020 before the colossal 75331 The Razor Crest in 2022. We’ll have to see whether Skeleton Crew’s ship experiences a similar upgrade in the next few years but for now, 75374 The Onyx Cinder should suffice.

75374 The Onyx Cinder is available now for £124.99 / $139.99 / €139.99 and you can watch Skeleton Crew’s new trailer by clicking here

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.

This would be a challenge relating to the increasing costs of this hobby- to make it even close to scale would likely put the cost close to $250 USD or more- and then it is inaccessible for most kids as a play set- it’s frustrating that the costs have increased so much- I know with SW sets there’s always the marketing costs added on, but hasn’t everyone associated with SW made enough $$ ten times over?
