What do the LEGO Star Wars midi-scale sets tell us about rumoured Marvel Helicarrier?
A trio of new midi-scale LEGO Star Wars sets may have something to tell us about the rumoured LEGO Marvel midi-scale Helicarrier.
The LEGO Group have officially revealed three new LEGO Star Wars midi-scale ships for the 25th anniversary of the theme – 75375 Millennium Falcon, 75376 Tantive IV and 75377 Invisible Hand. Rumour has it that these aren’t the only midi-scale sets coming in 2024 though.
LEGO Marvel summer 2024 rumours include 76295 Helicarrier Midiscale, which seems likely to be a similar build to these three LEGO Star Wars sets, provided the rumour is accurate. It’s believed to cost $59.99 and includes 509 pieces, putting it on par with 75377 Invisible Hand at 557 elements for $49.99.
Looking at these new sets with a particular focus on 75377 Invisible Hand and 75376 Tantive IV for their scale at midi-scale relative to the Helicarrier might offer insight into what to expect from the rumoured set. We’ll also take note of certain details in the massive 76042 The SHIELD Helicarrier as the last display-centric depiction of the Marvel vehicle.
All three midi-scale LEGO Star Wars ships coming on March 1 feature no minifigures or nanofigures while 76042 The SHIELD Helicarrier featured both kinds of figures. It might be wise to expect no such inclusions in the rumoured 76295 Helicarrier Midiscale.
That’s not to say that it won’t include any characters though as 75375 Millennium Falcon and 75376 Tantive IV both include the smallest possible interior spaces with depictions of characters using a few studs each. The shape and size of the Helicarrier could allow for one small interior space, depending on the size of the rumoured set.
Another feature of 76042 The SHIELD Helicarrier is the mini vehicles it includes and that’s not entirely out of the question at midi-scale either, though they would need to be a lot smaller to be at the same scale.
Both 75356 Executor Super Star Destroyer and 75376 Tantive IV feature smaller vehicles alongside the main model. 75356 Executor Super Star Destroyer has a pair of Star Destroyers, though that may not be the best example.
75376 Tantive IV‘s escape pods (including one that is missing as it should be) are a better example of how single elements can capture specific details and rounded tiles could represent Quinjets and more vehicles in the same way on a midi-scale Helicarrier.
The missing escape pod in 75376 Tantive IV also acts as evidence of underside detailing in midi-scale LEGO sets, meaning that the viewport on 76042 The SHIELD Helicarrier could be included on a midi-scale set using a single transparent element.
While one older midi-scale LEGO Star Wars set, 7778 Millennium Falcon, did not include a display stand, every model in the collection since then has featured one (mostly) complete with a label and it seems likely that this could be the case in the rumoured 76295 Helicarrier Midiscale too, though perhaps only with the name and not any technical details of the vehicle.
There’s a lot to take away from the new midi-scale LEGO Star Wars sets ahead of their release on March 1 and there’s a lot of potential for the rumoured 76295 Helicarrier Midiscale believed to be coming this summer. The latter set remains a rumour for now though and its details should be taken with an appropriate level of caution. Here’s a reminder of what’s rumoured and confirmed for LEGO Marvel in 2024.
