LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy is streaming now

All four parts of LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy are now available to stream on Disney+, so you can find out just how Jedi Bob, Darth Jar Jar and Beach Luke fit into this ‘What If?’ story…

The LEGO Group turned the Star Wars theme on its head back in August with 75389 The Dark Falcon, 75393 TIE Fighter & X-wing Mash-Up and 75388 Jedi Bob’s Starfighter, three sets hooked to Lucasfilm’s latest animated special Rebuild the Galaxy. All four parts of that new limited series are now streaming on Disney+, clocking in at roughly 22 minutes each, and together comprising what is effectively a LEGO Star Wars movie.

That’s thanks in part to the animation style, which apes Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s The LEGO Movie by emulating stop-motion movement (its characters can only move in the same way as real minifigures, for one thing). But this is also arguably the biggest and boldest LEGO Star Wars story ever told in animation, catapulting brothers Sig and Dev Greebling – voiced by Gaten Matarazzo and Tony Revolori respectively – into a strange new galaxy.

The first instalment sees the duo stumble on an ancient Jedi temple, discover the ‘cornerstone’ – a relic that can rewrite reality – and completely change everything they once knew to be true. Dev turns into a Sith Lord, Darth Vader is a Jedi, Luke Skywalker never embarked on the hero’s journey, and so on. You knew that much from the minifigures included in this summer’s LEGO Star Wars sets, but you’ll need to tune into the show to find out how it all fits together in practice.

There are a few surprise cameos in the mix too, with pretty big names from the Star Wars universe reprising their roles. That’s in addition to the already-announced return of Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker, who joins Bobby Moynihan as Jedi Bob, Marsai Martin as Yesi Scala and Ahmed Best as Darth Jar Jar.

LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy is co-written by Benji Samit and Dan Hernandez, and you can stream all four episodes right now on Disney+.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
