LEGO Super Mario fan offers potential look at what Mario Kart sets could look like

We might only have a silhouette of a teased LEGO Mario Kart set to go on but that hasn’t stopped fans from starting to speculate.

A quick tease at the end of the LEGO Super Mario Day video gave us our first hint at a future LEGO Mario Kart set, showing off the outline of a cart, along with a glimpse of the current buildable Mario figure.

However, according to recent LEGO Super Mario rumours for the summer wave reported by Instagram user itavixbrix, we could see entirely new buildable figure in a few months, with new starter courses for Mario, Luigi, and Peach believed to be on the way. Could the reason for a new design of buildable figures be to make them compatible with brick-built Mario Kart vehicles?

reddit user jp-30nz has shared a mock-up of the general scale of the car, judging from the silhouette shared by the LEGO Group. Of course, a silhouette isn’t a lot to go on – but they’ve been proven to be accurate before.

According to this approximation of the teased build, the one thing we can be certain of is that it won’t be ushering in the first wave of LEGO Super Mario minifigures, judging from how small a minifigure appears in that final example image.

When paired with the current Mario buildable figure, jp-30nz argues that the cart looks too small to hold him and that could mean the next generation of buildable figures will be smaller, to match the car. However, other reddit users commenting on the post (and we’d agree) that the proportions look about right. He might be quite close to the steering wheel in the example picture, but if you shift him back to be attached via the stud on the rear of the car, he’d be secure and ready to go.

The only rumoured change for the LEGO Super Mario brick-built characters we’ve heard so far has been that they are believed to soon be USB-chargeable, rather than battery-powered. The fact that the current Mario figure was included in the teaser video suggests that the old figures will be compatible with the LEGO Mario Kart sets teased for 2025 – although the fact that they will hit shelves at the earliest six months after the first-gen LEGO Super Mario buildable figures retire for good has us feeling sceptical about that.

Ultimately, it seems to make the most sense for the rumoured new versions of buildable figures to be designed for LEGO Mario Kart. In an ideal world, both old- and new-gen figures would fit well with the LEGO carts, to allow people who’ve been collecting LEGO Super Mario sets for years to get equally stuck in.

For now, there’s no real way of knowing. Indeed, we don’t even know whether they’ll be the same connectivity in the LEGO Mario Kart sets as in the LEGO Super Mario theme up until now. What we can say, however, is that the scale of the current buildable figures in LEGO Super Mario appears to match the scale of the LEGO Mario Kart silhouette. If the silhouette is accurate, that could give us a sense of how the teased sets could function down the line.
