LEGO Super Mario’s massive Super Mario 64 model is gone for good

One of LEGO Super Mario’s biggest builds is now gone for good early, adding some weight to reports of the theme’s builds retiring later this month.

Despite our retiring page listing it for retirement at the end of the month, 71395 Super Mario 64 Question Mark Block is now marked as Sold Out on the official online store worldwide, confirming that the model has retired a couple of weeks earlier than expected.

This is the first of the huge, 18+ LEGO Super Mario sets to be retired and it’s currently believed that 71374 Nintendo Entertainment System is next up for retirement at the end of this year.

The Super Mario 64 set pays homage to the classic game, despite the block not being featured in the title, by unfolding to show a variety of levels and secrets complete with small Super Mario figures to populate the model. You can take a closer look through our in-depth review.

While one massive LEGO Super Mario model is now gone, it’s not all bad news as rumour has it that a new addition to the range is coming on October 1. Those rumoured have yet to be confirmed but otherwise, both 71374 Nintendo Entertainment System, 71411 The Mighty Bowser as well as the smaller 71426 Piranha Plant are still available.

Many other LEGO Super Mario builds are currently scheduled to retire at the end of July according to our sources and you can see what’s retiring further beyond on our dedicated page. Take this as a reminder that any retiring LEGO set may sell out before its retirement date and be gone prematurely.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
