LEGO vending machine cameos in Monkie Kid set with old stock

The new LEGO Monkie Kid 80054 Megapolis City 5th Anniversary includes a cameo from the LEGO vending machines and several familiar sets.

There are undoubtedly a lot of Easter eggs in the new LEGO Monkie Kid 80054 Megapolis City 5th Anniversary but one particular reference has caught the eyes of some online for being a secret set inside of an Easter egg.

A vending machine positioned behind on the bottom left of the model, next to the Classic Space elevator in the above image is likely calling back to the same machines that appear in airports around the world. These machines are usually filled with several kinds of sets new and old. However, the vending machine in Megapolis is living in the past.

PenPlays on Twitter has pointed out that a familiar canister appears inside the machine, above 80046 Monkie Kid’s Cloud Airship. While this casiter was initially thought to be 8534 Tahu, designer Justin Ramsden has chimed in to confirm that it is a Roboriders Easter egg instead. The canister is meant to represent 8510 LAVA from 2000.

Beneath the Roboriders set is a row of two X-Pods too – a line of models from between 2004 and 2006. Combined with the 2023 model, it suggests that this LEGO vending machine is struggling to sell some old stock to the minifigures of Megapolis.

80054 Megapolis City 5th Anniversary is launching on January 1, 2024, for £159.99 / $189.99 / €179.99. It combines with 80036 The City of Lanterns and 80044 Monkie Kid’s Team Hideout too.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
