Diving into LEGO Wednesday and the mini-doll conspiracy
The LEGO Group seems to want to change your mind about mini-dolls and it’s taking it one franchise at a time.
Mini-dolls have typically been associated with children’s sets, primarily thanks to the LEGO Friends themes. They have more animated faces and larger bodies, both of which are more engaging for play by younger builders.
However, the LEGO Group appears to be trying to change that perception, including mini-dolls in sets that are likely to appeal to older builders. Namely, new-to-2024 themes LEGO Wicked and Wednesday both include sets with mini-dolls. These franchises, while certainly enjoyed by younger people too, have major appeal among young adults.
While some have been quick to complain that we’re getting mini-doll versions of Elphaba and Wednesday rather than minifigure ones, this could be the dawn of a new age for mini-dolls – or at least the start of a new PR campaign for them. Brick Fanatics‘ Matthew has got his speculating cap on and it’s providing him with some interesting ideas about what this could mean for the future of mini-dolls and the wider LEGO system.
