LEGO’s Wreath for 2024 comes with a higher price tag – but also major upgrades

Comparing LEGO Icons 10340 Wreath to its 2-in-1 predecessor unveils a wealth of upgrades – but do they mean it’s worth doubling in price?

The newly-revealed 10340 Wreath is not the first brick-built wreath, with its latest predecessor retiring just at the end of last year. The new addition is part of the LEGO Botanical Collection and, while still being a circular LEGO set made up of predominantly green pieces, the differences between 10340 Wreath and 40426 Christmas Wreath 2-in-1 are night and day.

We’ve broken down all the major differences between the two sets to see if the updated design makes it worth doubling in price.

Double the price means double the pieces

10340 Wreath will retail for £89.99 / $99.99 / €99.99 when it becomes available on October 1, while 40426 Christmas Wreath 2-in-1 was just £34.99 / $39.99 / €39.99. While that’s a steep price hike, it also comes with a doubling of the piece count and almost an extra 10cm in width.

The layering of the leaves also makes 10340 Wreath feel more lush than its predecessor, where you could see through the ‘leaves’ to the green backing. None of the foundations of the wreath appear to be visible on the updated set, at least from what we can see in the early photos, making the LEGO Botanical Collection model feel more substantial. You can really see where the extra pieces are going.

There’s a whole lot more detail

That base is far from just greenery too. There are plenty more details included in 10340 Wreath, from cinnamon sticks and berries all the way through to sliced oranges. In true Botanical Collection style, 10340 Wreath is incredibly realistic, just like the other flowers and plants that came before it. Where 40426 Christmas Wreath 2-in-1 looks like a LEGO wreath, 10340 Wreath could easily be mistaken for a real one from afar – and you can use it year after year.

The updated version is still 2-in-1

Although only 40426 Christmas Wreath 2-in-1 has ‘2in-1’ in the name, 10340 Wreath is still just as versatile. The former could be adapted into a tabletop candlestick holder (LEGO ones only, of course), but 40426 can also be displayed in a wavy line, ideal for table decor, as well as the more traditional circular wreath to hang on doors and walls. However you prefer to display your brick-built wreath, the decorations of oranges, pinecones, and berries are still clearly displayed.

LEGO Botanical Collection rather than a holiday special

All in all, the changes offer a major upgrade for a more mature, adult Christmas decoration from the LEGO Group. The previous wreath certainly got the job done but the varied shades of green, the realistic details in the berries and cinnamon sticks, and the overall more polished look mean that 10340 Wreath appears to be easy to mistake for a real wreath from afar. In our book, the design improvements and increased size account for the price difference between it and 40426 Christmas Wreath 2-in-1.

10340 Wreath is available to pre-order now ahead of shipping from October 1 alongside 10370 Poinsettia, another new addition to the LEGO Botanical Collection.
