New limited-edition LEGO gift-with-purchase pops up in-store
A previously-unseen gift-with-purchase has popped up at a LEGO Store in the US – but don’t expect it to be widely available.
That’s because the mysterious GWP has seemingly been designed to celebrate the anniversary of the store’s opening, which took place last week. Redditor Cherrypunisher13’s local US brand store is giving away a repackaged version of the LEGO VIP Weekend freebie 6313291 Buildable 2×4 Red Brick, only now with a ‘happy anniversary’ tile along the bottom of the stand.
The LEGO Group originally released this model sans celebrations as a gift-with-purchase in 2019, then followed it up in 2020 with 6346102 Buildable 2×4 Teal Brick. A third colour might have been better here, but given the limited application of such a freebie, it’s not too surprising to see the LEGO Group hasn’t pulled out all the stops.
The question now is whether we can expect to see this same gift show up for the anniversaries of other stores, or whether it will be specific to one country, region or even store. The minimum spend threshold at Cherrypunisher13’s store (the location of which they have not divulged) is apparently $120, so if it does show up elsewhere, you can probably expect a required spend of around £100 / €120. We’ll presumably need to wait for another store to celebrate an anniversary to find out either way.
The same is true for the ‘happy anniversary’ tile, which – whisper it – looks to be printed. If that is the case, fingers crossed that it one day show up on Pick a Brick, so we can all design our own anniversary builds. And given how much the LEGO Group loves an anniversary, we’re sure it would find plenty of its own uses for it too…
