Marvel announces new single-player Black Panther game

Marvel has officially announced a Black Panther title in partnership with Electronic Arts, joining the upcoming Iron Man game.

Based in Seattle, the newly formed Cliffhanger Games is developing an original, third-person, single-player Black Panther game. The press release mentions an expansive and reactive world, but never specifically states that the game is open world.

“We’re dedicated to delivering fans a definitive and authentic Black Panther experience, giving them more agency and control over their narrative than they have ever experienced in a story-driven video game,” said Kevin Stephens of Monolith Productions, who is leading the new studio. “Wakanda is a rich superhero sandbox, and our mission is to develop an epic world for players who love Black Panther and want to explore the world of Wakanda as much as we do.”

The use of ‘sandbox’ suggests that the game could feature an open world, but nothing has been confirmed and plans may change in development.

“It’s an incredibly rare opportunity to build a new team around the values of diversity, collaboration, and empowerment,” shared Kevin.  “We want our game to enable players to feel what it’s like to be worthy of the Black Panther mantle in unique, story-driven ways, and we want Cliffhanger Games to empower everyone on our team as we collaborate to bring this amazing world to life.”

This is the second title in the partnership between Electronic Arts and Marvel, which was originally stated to include at least three new action adventure games that will be available for consoles and PC. The first to be announced was an Iron Man title being developed by Motive Studios.

This game is likely a few years away from releasing at least, but in the meantime, we have the sequel to Marvel’s Spider-Man on PlayStation 5 to look forward to in October.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
