More details on rumoured LEGO Icons 10335 The Endurance

A potential piece count for the rumoured LEGO Black Friday 2024 set 10335 The Endurance has surfaced, but it doesn’t shed a whole lot of light on the set’s scale…

Said to be launching November 29 as this year’s flagship Black Friday LEGO set, 10335 The Endurance is thought to recreate the ill-fated ship aboard which Sir Ernest Shackleton sailed for the Atlantic. The real-life vessel became trapped in polar ice and ultimately sank (though her crew all survived). Previous rumours have suggested it will retail for $259.99 in the US, but Brick Clicker now reports it will contain 3,011 pieces.

That still places it among the smaller LEGO sets released for Black Friday, paling in comparison to recent entries including 76269 Avengers Tower, 10307 Eiffel Tower and 10294 Titanic. But it’s enough pieces that the LEGO Group could be going in a couple of directions with this LEGO Icons model: will it be a totally microscale ship, devoid of minifigures (or perhaps with Shackleton on a separate display stand)? Or will it be a full minifigure-scale ship that includes Shackleton and plenty of crew?

We’re using ‘minifigure scale’ quite loosely there, because for the Endurance to be true minifigure scale it would need to be far more expensive and include far more pieces. But the LEGO Group has never been shy about playing with scale to accommodate minifigures – 76269 Avengers Tower is filled with rooms for minifigures but would need to be even bigger to be true minifigure-scale, for example.

At this stage there’s still plenty of scope for 10335 The Endurance to go either way, so we’ll have to wait for the LEGO Group to officially reveal this year’s Black Friday release to find out for sure. That’s if reports of this ship are true at all, of course – for now, take them with the customary grain of salt. You know the drill.
