More LEGO Speed Champions sets that need another chance

Rumour has it that LEGO Speed Champions will revisit a set after a huge change and there are many other cars that need the same treatment.

A recent rumour from itavixbrix on Instagram, via brick_clicker, claims that a LEGO Speed Champions set coming later this year will revisit the Ferrari F40 as the theme seems ready to revisit older models. For this car specifically, the rumoured 76934 Ferrari F40 Supercar would make a lot of sense as 75890 Ferrari F40 Competizione from 2019 was released near the end of the theme’s six-wide model saga.

Now, LEGO Speed Champions cars have shifted to an eight-stud wide base, vastly increasing the accuracy and level of detail and making more room for minifigures inside.

Given the huge change, many older LEGO Speed Champions models didn’t quite live up to their full potential but revisiting them as is rumoured would allow the designers to give these iconic cars another chance at most accurately recreating them without the same limits.

Note that while nothing has been officially confirmed regarding the future of LEGO Speed Champions, here are five older cars that we’d like to see have another chance at a more detailed model.

5 – 75910 Porsche 918 Spyder

75910 Porsche 918 Spyder is from the first year of LEGO Speed Champions and while the car recreation is still recognisable, LEGO Speed Champions has come a long way with convertibles as is visible in 76924 Mercedes-AMG G 63 & Mercedes-AMG SL 63.

Another version of this vehicle could allow for some improvements on the windscreen, front shaping and enough space for two minifigures to sit side-by-side.

4 – 75870 Chevrolet Corvette Z06

75870 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 is from early on in LEGO Speed Champions’ life and compared to the real car, the retired LEGO set is arguably not distinguishable enough from other LEGO Speed Champions cars.

This is arguably one of the most needed revisits given the intricate shaping of the real vehicle and it could even be a chance to experiment with another LEGO Speed Champions convertible, drastically changing the focus of the original set from track racing.

3 – 75881 1966 Ford GT40

Whether part of a double-pack as it was originally in 75881 2016 Ford GT & 1966 Ford GT40 or a standalone set, we’d like to see the LEGO Speed Champions designers revisit the classic Ford GT design.

They could take inspiration from both 76905 Ford GT Heritage Edition and Bronco R and 76906 1970 Ferrari 512 M, focusing more on the classic design rather than the Heritage Edition of the vehicle.

2 – 75899 LaFerrari

75899 LaFerrari feels somewhat squashed at six-studs-wide, especially looking at the eight-wide LEGO Speed Champions cars and 76895 Ferrari F8 Tributo specifically.

Another build of the LaFerrari could give the designers a chance to properly depict this vehicle and the gap in the centre of its hood, maybe avoiding using a sticker.

1 – 75877 Mercedes-AMG GT3

75877 Mercedes-AMG GT3 is from 2017 and has a unique elongated design that already helps to set it apart from the LEGO Speed Champions sets available at the time.

The theme’s eight-wide models have already covered similarly-designed cars including in 76914 Ferrari 812 Competizione and an extra stud on either side of the build could help the original build to recreate the headlights and the windscreen best specifically.
