Motorised log flume takes a second ride at the LEGO Ideas review

A redesigned and reimagined version of a working log flume that previously hit 10,000 supporters has reached the LEGO Ideas review stage again – and this time, it’s motorised.

LEGO Ideas user and Adventurers character Baron von Barron’s Working Log Flume originally cracked the second 2022 review, but failed to make it past that stage and into production. The builder revamped their design based on feedback from fans and resubmitted the refreshed version in August last year – and it’s now reached 10,000 votes again, sneaking into the third 2023 review just as the shutters close on this qualification period.

The newer design swaps out the track links of the original version for LEGO roller coaster track, moves the platform to the ascent side of the ride (it was previously parked in the splash zone), adds two smaller drops before the final descent, and is fully motorised. “As I do agree that playing with or just watching a fairground ride in action is more fun if you don’t have to crank all the time manually, I integrated a central battery-powered motorisation directly into the build,” Baron explains.

Included in this pitch are four log flume cars with two seats apiece; a boarding platform with ticket booth; a water shooter and drive-through shower; an elevator with a chain tensioner; a cashier, mechanic and five fairground visitors; and animals such as a swordfish and seagull. The entire thing consists of exactly 3,000 pieces – the limit for any one Ideas project – and measures a hefty 38cm tall, 32cm wide and 94cm deep.

This working model would sit adjacent to LEGO fairground sets such as 10303 Loop Coaster and 10273 Haunted House, so there’s a fair chance the LEGO Group has already considered a log flume (and may even have one in the works). That could impact its chances in the third 2023 review, but we’ve got a while to wait to find out either way: the results of this review will likely be announced in the summer.

One or more of the 40 different projects in this review could end up on shelves as an official LEGO set. Check out the full list of builds in contention below.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
