There was a must-have in LEGO 10323 PAC-MAN Arcade’s development

Bandai Namco insisted on an interesting aspect of LEGO Icons 10323 PAC-MAN Arcade during its development, a designer has revealed.

During a recent roundtable interview attended by Brick Fanatics and other Fan Media with designer Sven Franic, the development of the new 10323 PAC-MAN Arcade was explained, including some guidance from partner Bandai Namco.

“We decided that if we’re going to make the little characters on a larger scale, it’s unlikely that we’d be able to fit all of them on the sculpture,” shared Franic when asked about the spinning PAC-MAN, Blinky and Clyde build.

“So, the choice to have Blinky and Clyde came down to Bandai Namco. They had their opinions on that. Blinky is apparently considered a main ghost or something.”

It’s an interesting request from Bandai Namco as the four PAC-MAN ghosts have many similarities, but it suggests that the company have data to prove that Blinky, and presumably Clyde, are more popular than the other ghosts.

“For every IP partner it’s crucial for them to have their brand represented in the light that they wish so that all the logos and things are represented,” Franic continued.

“For example, we really wanted to print the logo at the top of the cabinet because it would be a nightmare to align three stickers and we didn’t have an element that would work on such a large area without using foils. So, trying to get that logo to be correct, that was a big discussion.”

The discussions with Bandai Namco were worth it as noted in our review, as the finished 10323 PAC-MAN Arcade is impressive and functional. It’s available now for £229.99 / $269.99 / €269.99.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
