Are there new LEGO Minifigures Series 25 codes?

As new boxes of LEGO Collectible Minifigures 71045 Series 25 hit shelves, watch out for newer versions of the data matrix codes that reveal what’s inside.

Certain production runs of 71045 Series 25 feature large data matrix codes on the bottom of each minifigure’s box, which – with a quick scan using the Brick Search app – reveal exactly which character is hiding inside. That’s the perfect way to get around the inability to feel out particular minifigures following the switch from foil bags to blind boxes. But it’s one that depends on finding the larger data matrix codes, and then the information in them matching known codes for each of the 12 characters.

If you scan one of the larger data matrix codes (note that some boxes will still feature the smaller code, which doesn’t contain enough information to be useful) with a regular code reader app, you’ll retrieve a string of numbers that looks a little something like this: 6472867 245S3 13916839 000341. The first of those four codes pertains to the specific minifigure inside the box.

When the newest series hit shelves, the community quickly ascertained that certain codes belonged to certain characters, with two different sets of codes across North America and Europe:

That information allowed the Brick Search team to add the ability to scan Collectible Minifigures boxes using the app’s existing barcode scanner. Simply open the app, select the barcode scanner (the blue button in the centre of the bottom menu), point it at the large data matrix code (while covering up the main barcode) and the app will instantly show you which character you’re holding.

However, it’s possible that the codes in certain regions may be changing as new production runs of 71045 Series 25 arrive on shelves. The data matrix codes are still scannable, but the specific string of numbers that pertain to each character may have changed, which could prevent Brick Search from scanning them – for now, anyway. Once the team has confirmed the new set of codes, they can upload them into the app and allow everyone to carry on scanning for their favourite characters.

So: if you come across any of the newer boxes with a larger data matrix code that doesn’t scan in the Brick Search app, drop [email protected] an email. You might just be able to help the team add the new codes, in turn helping the LEGO community around the world track down 71045 Series 25 – whether for a complete collection of all 12 characters, or just an army of Triceratops Costume Fans.

Brick Search is available to download now on Android and iOS. Click here to learn more about the Series 25 minifigure scanner.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.

the system is totally brilliant, I only wanted 5 of the set of 12, and I first went with the weight guides promoted elsewhere. Using this, I got three boxes, none of which were the ones I expected them to be (probably extra glue changing the weights)
    My blind three boxes were
    Dog groomer,
    Mushroom hat fairy girl,
    Triceratops guy.

I then used the app, wanting
    gamer girl,
    detective,
    Paralympian,
    train guy.

all four scanned perfectly, and even the three I bought blind showed the correct character that was in the boxes.

My local Smyth’s now has two kinds of code box, and if my memory is correct, the codes that have A5 or similar are the ones that the app can’t recognise.

I now have all the characters I want, and the app detected the goat guy, the purple faced demon thing, and one other.. but I didn’t want them.

thanks very much to anyone who helped develop, test, and more importantly bring I to the public domain so normies like me can get what we want without having to buy 15 doubles first!
