Community reactions to LEGO BrickLink Series 5 sets raise a good point

Now that the online community have had a chance to react to the LEGO BrickLink Designer Program Series 5 sets, they have a good point.

The five finalists for Series 5 of the BrickLink Designer Program have been revealed, including one that was the most-voted project in any series so far. Initial reactions to these models on the LEGO Reddit are notably positive and the builds are going down well so far.

Some are particularly excited about JonasKramm’s Mushroom Village, intended to expand on the 964-piece Mushroom House from the second series.

“I pre-ordered the first mushroom house in this last round and was hoping this new one also made it through,” shares XippyI2. “Looking forward to building both in the future.”

Others are similarly hoping that this won’t be the last of Jonas’ builds to make it as a BrickLink Designer Program set so they can make a miniature village.

“Oh yeah, great to see Jonas’ design get picked again,” commented TransLunarTrekkie. “He keeps this up we’ll have a whole little fairy village eventually and I’m so here for that!”

A couple of the fan designers jumped into the comment section on Reddit to thank the community for their support too.

“I am the designer behind the ‘Popcorn Wagon’, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your amazing support on the way to making it all possible,” said MichalTurzanski. “Congrats to all fellow finalists – your designs are amazing and unique in their own way! Happy building.”

ThatOneGuy_Steve thanked the fans as well, stating, “I’m the designer of the Antique Shop! So excited that my design was chosen, and so thankful for all the support!”

As the comments continued, some made a good point about a few fan designers who have been picked for a second and even a third build as part of the BrickLink Designer Program. Quantum0explorer chimed in by commenting, “The LEGO Group should hire SleeplessNight.”

Noraetic agreed, sharing “That’s the third set by SleeplessNight, and the second for Jonas and Krackenator picked in the BrickLink Designer Program. At this point, the LEGO Group should just hire them.”

Others in the comments aren’t quite as enthusiastic about the fact that there are three designers in this series who have been picked before.

“I see it a little unfair that one designer keeps getting chosen for most of the program,” Killer_Greenstar pointed out.

It’s a good point and one that could have more weight depending on what happens in future series, though there’s similarly little argument to be made that SleeplessNight’s builds are popular. Financially, it’s a wise decision to keep picking them for future sets.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.

… yeah, it’s totally unfair that the person who’s really good at builds and gets more votes than any other build gets to have their build made…
