Rebuild the Galaxy could be the LEGO Star Wars movie we’ve been waiting for

Now that we know Rebuild the Galaxy is a four-episode special event, this could be the LEGO Star Wars movie we’ve been waiting for.

Unlike the holiday and Halloween specials, LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy is a story to be told in four parts as confirmed by the latest trailer. This could mean that for the 25th anniversary of LEGO Star Wars, the new special event is the LEGO Star Wars movie we’ve been waiting for.

Following a small cameo from Star Wars in the original LEGO movie, we’ve been waiting for the iconic franchise to receive the cinematic LEGO treatment in the same vein as NINJAGO and Batman. That’s not happened just yet but Rebuild the Galaxy’s animation style paired with its potential length may make for the cinematic experience we’ve been waiting for.

Assuming that each episode is around 22 minutes long, which isn’t uncommon for animated LEGO Star Wars content, that would make LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy an hour and 30 minutes long or around the same length as an animated movie.

There’s also a chance that each episode is 11 minutes long, totalling 45 minutes for all of LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy. Nothing has been confirmed at the time of writing and we have just over a month until we’ll know just how big LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy is.

What is confirmed is that LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy’s animation differs from the two previous specials, resembling stop motion similar to The LEGO Movie. Should the length be over an hour, that could assist in the cinematic experience.

All of this depends on the four episodes being 22 minutes long and this may be a standard 45-minute special split into four parts after all. We can only hope that the team behind the special event goes the extra mile for the 25th anniversary of LEGO Star Wars though.

LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy is streaming on Disney+ on September 13 and you can click here to see the special events’ star-studded cast.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
