Rumoured LEGO 2024 Formula 1 car could be a rarity

A rumoured LEGO Icons Formula 1 car said to be released in 2024 may be a rarity in the extensive range of Formula 1 builds from LEGO history.

A new rumour from brick_clicker via 1414falconfan has it that 10330 McLaren MP4/8 is coming on March 1, 2024, for $79.99 with 693 pieces. Provided this report is accurate, it would be far from the first LEGO Formula 1 set, even discounting the smaller Speed Champions models.

However, while there are plenty of minifigure-scale LEGO Formula 1 models, upscaled System depictions of the iconic race cars are a lot more uncommon than their Technic counterparts.

The closest comparisons to the rumoured 10330 McLaren MP4/8 by piece count would be 8157 Ferrari F1 1:9 from 2008 at 997 elements, 2556 Ferrari Formula 1 Racing Car at 580 pieces from 1998 and 5540 Formula 1 Racer with 451 elements from 1986. Suffice it to say, that it’s been a while since the last big System Formula 1 car.

Otherwise, the largest LEGO Formula 1 models are Technic sets or use the same building system and there are quite a few differences in their structure and overall appearance. This may be to the rumoured 2024 set’s advantage though.

42141 McLaren Formula 1 Race Car is currently scheduled to be available in 2024. However, the rumoured LEGO Icons 10330 McLaren MP4/8 should be different enough to set itself apart on shelves while offering racing enthusiasts what could be the first big Formula 1 race car System set in 16 years. Keep in mind that the reported model is said to include an exclusive Ayrton Senna minifigure too

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes.
