Rumoured LEGO Modular Building could solve a long-standing problem

A huge rumoured LEGO Modular Building could solve a problem that’s been around since 10255 Assembly Square.

The ten-year-anniversary Modular Building 10255 Assembly Square made history within the sub-theme, being the largest of its kind and spread across 48×32 studs, rather than the usual 32×32. While this left a lot of space for easter eggs and references to the sets that came before, it does leave Modular Buildings collectors with a slight issue. With the base of the set essentially taking up 1.5 times more space than a standard modular, fitting in 10255 Assembly Square around or alongside others from the sub-theme often left awkward 16-stud-wide gaps between buildings.

While this could be solved by putting 10255 Assembly Square at the end of a 16-stud-wide road, or creating a custom half-plate narrow build, if you wanted neat rows of Modular Buildings, there were no others from the collection that could be used to plug the gap – until now (maybe).

According to the latest rumours spotted by Instagram user brick_clicker, a new Modular Building is on its way on January 1, 2024 to replace 10255 Assembly Square. Both its rumoured price (£259.99 / $299.99) and piece count (4,012) match 10255’s almost perfectly, suggesting that it could also sit on a similarly-sized baseplate or at the very least be larger in some other than the standard Modular Buildings.

This could then provide the ideal sized set to stand opposite 10255 Assembly Square or slot in elsewhere in the block opposite and create a parallel street of modulars that’s the exact same length as the one including 10255, without any need for gaps or custom builds.

Of course, it remains to be seen what exactly this rumoured Modular Building will be (although we have some thoughts) or indeed if it’s coming at all. For now, take the rumours with a pinch of salt until we get official confirmation from the LEGO Group.
