Rumoured LEGO Star Wars mech could be changing the game

A rumoured LEGO Star Wars mech could be changing LEGO mechs like never before, moving in a direction that makes nearly too much sense.

Though it’s not quite the most exciting of the recent LEGO Star Wars rumours at first glance, 75390 Luke Skywalker X-wing Mech could be worth keeping an eye out for according to the latest reported details. The LEGO Star Wars set has yet to be officially confirmed and all rumoured details should be taken with caution.

Character-specific mechs are nothing new for the LEGO Group with builds from Marvel, Sonic the Hedgehog and most recently Star Wars. These have always been based on the character’s designs and that was originally rumoured to be the case with 75390 Luke Skywalker X-wing Mech too.

The latest rumours for LEGO Star Wars from YouTuber MaxBaut posit that instead, 75390 Luke Skywalker X-wing Mech is based on the design of the vehicle, and not the orange pilot jumpsuit that Luke wears. It’s stated that the mech could be white with wings in the style of the ship protruding from the shoulders.

Basing a LEGO mech off a vehicle instead of a more organic character makes complete sense for the common models and it’s a surprisingly rare occurrence for LEGO mechs. The most recent and memorable robot model inspired by a vehicle is 10302 Optimus Prime.

Notably, the concept of an X-wing mech has already been approached, sort of, by one of Hasbro’s Star Wars Transformers from 2006. That design took inspiration from both the pilot suit and an X-wing, complete with an orange and white colour scheme and wings protruding from the shoulders. 19 years later, the LEGO Group may be offering a similar take on an X-wing figure that could help shape the future of LEGO character mechs.

We’ll have to see how comparable the unique Star Wars Transformer figure is to 75390 Luke Skywalker X-wing Mech, should the rumours be true. It’s reported to be released on June 1, 2024.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
