Six LEGO Technic sets revealed for 2024 – including a trip to space

Six new listings for LEGO Technic sets have appeared on the official online LEGO store, offering a closer look at the rest of the wave.

Four LEGO Technic sets straight from out of space and two designed for on-the-ground speed have appeared on LEGO.com, revealing lifestyle images and confirming international prices for the 2024 sets. Although none will be available to buy until March 2024, the LEGO Technic line-up for next year is shaping up to be a varied one, ranging from Formula E and motorbikes to exploring the depths of outer space.

Scroll on for a closer look at each of the six newly revealed sets, as well as a full summary of everything we know is on its way to LEGO Technic at the end of the article.

LEGO Technic returns to the McLaren team, this time taking a pass at their Formula E race car in 42169 NEOM McLaren Formula E Race Car. The livery is impressively detailed in McLaren’s signature orange, with all of the technical features that LEGO Technic fans love hidden within, from working steering to a double pull-back function to send the model speeding along.

42170 Kawasaki Ninja H2R

Price: £69.99 / $84.99 / €79.99 Pieces: 643 Release date: March 1, 2024

Next up is 42170 Kawasaki Ninja H2R, a 1:8 scale model motorcycle that includes a number of authentic features such as steering, suspension, a two-speed gearbox, a four-piston articulated engine, and a turbocharger. The green Technic elements on the side are exposed to see the mechanisms and add a splash of colour to the otherwise monochrome build.

42178 Surface Space Loader LT78

Price: £29.99 / $34.99 / €34.99 Pieces: 435 Release date: March 1, 2024

Now we come to the space portion of the wave, kicking off with 42178 Surface Space Loader LT78. At £29.99 / $34.99 / €34.99, it’s the cheapest LEGO Technic space set on the way, featuring a special space air-lock element so builders can connect it with other compatible space LEGO sets (more on that later). It can complete a range of functions, from steering the loader and raising the cabin to picking up cargo.

42179 Planet Earth and Moon in Orbit

Price: £69.99 / $74.99 / €79.99 Pieces: 526 Release date: March 1, 2024

42179 Planet Earth and Moon in Orbit is impressive enough to display as well as interact with, showcasing how the moon and Earth orbit around the sun and how these rotations affect the seasons. Priced at £69.99 / $74.99 / €79.99 for its 526 pieces, it functions via a rotating crank to illustrate the movement of all three objects.

42180 Mars Crew Exploration Rover

Price: £129.99 / $149.99 / €149.99 Pieces: 1,599 Release date: March 1, 2024

If you want to get more up close with your space exploration, you’ll need 42180 Mars Crew Exploration Rover. This build is much larger, at 1,599 pieces and priced at £129.99 / $149.99 / €149.99 but the detail is undoubtedly impressive, including an extendable cargo bed, suspension, movable crane, elevator, generator, lights, companion rover, living cabin and cockpit.

42181 VTOL Heavy Cargo Spaceship LT81

Price: £89.99 / $109.99 / €99.99 Pieces: 1,365 Release date: March 1, 2024

Finally, we come to 42181 VTOL Heavy Cargo Spaceship LT81, a futuristic space ship that has gears to rotate the engines, extendable landing gear, a claw that can lower to grab cargo. This LEGO Technic set is perhaps most illustrative of a relatively new direction from the theme, with space sets that aren’t wholly based on real-life vehicles.

Do you know if the Kawasaki is the same scale as the Ducatti from a few years ago? Cheers
