Six LEGO Wednesday references fans of the Netflix series will love

Wednesday Addams has appeared in various forms over the years, most recently in the Netflix series, and the LEGO Group has chosen which version it will focus on.

Netflix’s Wednesday came out in 2022 and is the most recent depiction of the gothic teen from the Addams family. Whenever working with an external IP, the LEGO Group tends to pick one inspiration source and stick to it. We’ve seen it with LEGO Harry Potter, where the sets tend to stick to the movies rather than the books (although not always) and it seems that the LEGO Group has chosen the Netflix series as its inspiration for the new LEGO Wednesday theme.

That means Jenna Ortega’s version of Wednesday can be felt throughout the set, along with Netflix’s outfits and accessories for the characters from the show. The presence of the show can be seen throughout, so we’ve picked out some of the best references to the hit show that are hidden throughout the LEGO sets.

Nero’s tomb

A rare bonding moment between Wednesday and Enid comes about when the reserved titular character opens up about a traumatic memory. When she was six years old, she was bullied by a pair of boys in an incident that ends with her letting go of the lead for her pet scorpion, Nero. He wanders off and is repeatedly run over by the boys on bikes, killing him.

The tragic end of a rare creature that Wednesday cares about is immortalised in LEGO in the form of a gravestone in 76780 Wednesday Addams Figure, complete with a tiny scorpion figure and a plaque with his name on it.

Thing, scars and all

Nero wasn’t Wednesday’s only small companion, however. Thing comes with Wednesday for her time at Nevermore Academy and can be found in both sets. The disembodied hand can grasp onto studs in the LEGO sets, so can be displayed anywhere you like in both 76780 Wednesday Addams Figure and 76781 Wednesday & Enid’s Dorm Room – including perched on the mini-dolls arms.

That’s especially fitting if you’ve seen the Netflix show, where Thing is constantly creeping into shot to try and connect or assist Wednesday – much to her chagrin on occasion.

Wednesday’s cello

An often-referenced scene from Wednesday is her chilling performance on the cello. That hobby is also represented in 76781 Wednesday & Enid’s Dorm Room, with a black (of course) cello and sheet music, all seemingly in minor scales from what it looks like, reflecting Wednesday’s morous taste in music.

Enid’s cat ear headphones

The description for 76781 Wednesday & Enid’s Dorm Room promises that Enid’s iconic cat ear headphones that sparked trends around the world will make an appearance in the set. You can get a glimpse of them in the picture above, rounding off the bestie’s colourful garb and accessories. If you’re not a fan, you can easily put them away in the drawers at the base of the set.

Colour split on the stained glass window

The contrasting personalities and styles of the two friends is bets represented visually in their split dorm room, with Wednesday’s side nearly all black and Enid’s being a riot of colour. That carries through into 76781 Wednesday & Enid’s Dorm Room and even results in a unique and what looks to be printed element for the stained glass window. The spiderweb pattern is symmetrical but one side is filled in with yellow, pink, and blue to truly completely the half-and-half decor that the dorm room at Nevermore boasts.

Murder mystery board

The central plot of Wednesday is based on a murder mystery, represented in 76781 Wednesday & Enid’s Dorm Room through the red-string murder mystery board. Like all of the accessories in the set, there are multiple options to arrange it, from the very top of the room to slots for it to lean up on both Enid and Wednesday’s sides of the dorm room. If you’re keen to recreate some of the most climactic moments of the show, the murder board is there to help you do it.

Both 76780 Wednesday Addams Figure and 76781 Wednesday & Enid’s Dorm Room will be available to buy from October 1, 2024.

“The Thing” is Ben Grimm’s Super Hero name in Fantastic Four.
The hand from Addam’s Family is named “Thing”.
