Star Wars is light at Comic-Con 2024, but there’s a reason

Lucasfilm’s plans for Star Wars at San Diego Comic-Con are light, but there are some but there’s nothing for fans of the franchise to worry about.

The San Diego Comic-Con 2024 schedule is now available, offering an idea of what news and announcements we might be able to expect from the pop-culture event. Marvel Studios is back at the event and even the LEGO Group has a couple of major panels to be aware of. While there are quite a few activities planned relating to Star Wars, there’s only one major panel at this year’s event.

The panel, which takes place on July 25, is confirmed to cover the future of Star Wars books and comics and more information for the upcoming Star Wars: Outlaws. The new open-world Star Wars game is scheduled to be released on August 30. Nothing for the films or series has been confirmed for the panel and it seems unlikely that there will be any surprises for one specific reason.

Following closely after San Diego Comic-Con 2024 ends, Disney’s D23 event takes place from August 9 to 11 and the Disney Entertainment Showcase seems to be a more likely location for major Star Wars film and series news.

D23’s proximity to San Diego Comic-Con 2024 means that it wouldn’t make much sense for Disney to announce major Star Wars news at an event other than the one it is operating a few weeks later. That said, this seems to be exactly what’s happening for Marvel Studios but it’s not uncommon for Marvel Cinematic Universe announcements to appear at both events in one year.

Either way, should there be no major Star Wars movie news at San Diego Comic-Con, it’s likely nothing to worry about and there’s sure to be some other major announcements at the event for other franchises. LEGO Dungeons & Dragons’ presence is confirmed for instance and a new series of minifigures launches in September.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
