‘Tis the season for… a free LEGO set?

One reddit user got a free festive surprise in their LEGO order – but they’re certainly not complaining about it.

The day an online LEGO order comes is a happy day for any collector, but it was an even happier one for u/Scootaloo21194 on reddit when their copy of 31208 The Great Wave with a surprising addition that certainly doesn’t come as standard: the newly-released 10325 Alpine Lodge. The face on the cat says it all: what a surprise.

“I ordered The Great Wave and today it arrived with a free Alpine Lodge! Talk about luck,” they wrote in the reddit post, before joking: “New marketing tactic to get me into the winter village collection?”

Usually retailing for £89.99 / $99.99 / €99.99 for the 1,517-piece set, that’s not a bad unofficial gift-with-purchase, almost the same piece count and the exact same price as the LEGO Art set that they actually ordered. Of course, it’s worth noting that this is likely a glitch in the LEGO Group’s system and not a nifty way to get a free holiday-themed set for every purchase of 31208 Hokusai – The Great Wave (although it’s a good-looking set, so perhaps worth a try).

After all, with roughly seven LEGO sets getting sold every second, it’s understandable that for a company as large as the LEGO Group, something will slip through the cracks. In this case, it’s 10325 Alpine Lodge, but just last week we also saw a slightly excessive response to a missing LEGO Marvel minifigure accessory.

In the words of Bob Ross, it’s a happy little accident for Scootaloo21194, however, who can now get stuck into a festive build when the end of the year swings round.
