What colour should the next LEGO Classic Space minifigure be?

The next colour for the growing collection of LEGO Classic Space astronauts is up to you to decide, but what colour should be next?

LEGO Ideas’ upcoming Minifigure Prize Machine was revealed earlier this year to feature a fan vote to decide on two minifigures in the set – a LEGO Castle minifigure of a new or returning faction as well as a brand new colour for Classic Space.

Primary and secondary colours are mostly covered and the LEGO Ideas team are proposing five options to vote on, mixing hues for potential new minifigures. The options are bright bluish green (colour ID: 107), bright yellowish green (colour ID: 119), reddish violet (colour ID: 124), warm gold (colour ID: 297) and dark azure (colour ID: 321).

That just leaves one question – which colour should you pick? As shown on the colour wheel below, some of the proposed colours are quite close to colours that we’ve already received, but admittedly not the same.

Warm gold is arguably the most different of the options and would pair well with a minifigure from 60434 Space Base and Rocket Launchpad. The same can be said for the dark azure minifigure though.

Bright yellowish green is an uncommon colour for LEGO pieces with 247 types recorded on BrickLink compared to the nearly 500 of reddish violet and would similarly go along nicely with the alien figures scattered across 2024 LEGO sets from LEGO City and LEGO Friends.

There are plenty of discussions online campaigning for many other colours including on X (formerly Twitter) and reddit as the community determines which colour is their favourite ahead of the vote’s close on June 3. A glance suggests that bright bluish green (or teal) and warm gold are some of the most popular colours out of the options but it’s still early in the vote to know for sure.

As OyG5xOxGNK on reddit puts it, “Not a fan of warm gold (gold ink/old warm gold is so much better) or lime.”

Those who prefer bright bluish green don’t give many reasons as they simply like the hue more than the rest, though that’s as good a reason as any arguably.

The Brick Fanatics team is similarly split and while we can’t see the results update in real-time, the Classic Space vote may be more evenly split than you were expecting. The results reveal date has not been confirmed at the time of writing, though it could be sometime this year given other LEGO Ideas vote results.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.

I really like the gold classic space minifig, though it would be nice to have it shine like real gold. A silver color would also be much appreciated. Keep surprising us, that’s the most important ;o).

I think there should be either a clear or glow in the dark classic astronaut next.
