Here’s what a LEGO Formula 1 2025 collection could look like

We drew from what 2024 gave LEGO Space to lay out some predictions for what 2025 could bring for Formula 1, if rumours are to be believed.

Thanks to rumours from Brick Clicker, it’s thought that 2025 could be for Formula 1 what 2024 has been for Space. That is, LEGO Formula 1 could be the next collection to span multiple themes. If the rumour proves to be true, it’ll be an interesting change from Space. Where there were plenty of possibilities in Space, from realistic technical builds bases on actual NASA ships to fantastical space-themed models in LEGO DREAMZzz, Formula 1 is a little more grounded.

Still, there are plenty of reasons why it makes total sense for this to be the LEGO Group’s next choice – and plenty of options for what the designers could do. We’ve thought through some of what we saw from LEGO Space and how it could be applied to LEGO Formula 1 next week.

New box artwork

One of the first things that clued everyone into the fledgling LEGO Space collection spanning multiple themes was the telltale artwork on the different boxes, before the LEGO Group had formally introduced the concept. This echoes the similar idea of having a unified 18+ box design for all of the sets geared towards older builders, with the black colour that’s present across LEGO Icons, Ideas, DC, and other themes with 18+ models.

If this proves to be a formal licensed collaboration with Formula 1, we’d expect the Formula 1 logo to be present but otherwise imagery of race tracks, wheels, cars, and so on are sure to be front and centre. Looking at the rhythm of the LEGO Space collection, we first saw examples of the Space branding as early as December 2023, so we might not need to wait until next year to get a sense of whether this rumour will be true or what the artwork could look like.

Multiple themes are a given – but which?

Naturally, if the rumours of a LEGO Formula 1 collection are true, it will span multiple themes. It actually already does (and it’ll be interesting to see whether LEGO Formula 1 sets from Icons, Technic, and Speed Champions this year will be bundled into the same collection) but there’s the possibility of doing far more. Although we’ve had one LEGO Icons set based on Formula 1, 10330 McLaren MP4/4 & Ayrton Senna, the display-focused theme has plenty more potential for iconic Formula 1 cars.

The Red Bull RB19 is a recent example that might be one of the best Formula 1 cars of all time, even if the McLaren MP4/4 already featured in the LEGO Icons theme statistically comes out on top. Other notable potentials include the F2004, the FERRARI 500, or the LOTUS 72, all of which also have distinct enough liveries and silhouettes to warrant having their own detailed LEGO Icons set.

LEGO Technic and Speed Champions are pretty obvious for how they could tie in, seeing as we’ve seen it this year and in the past. We’re sure to see more more eight-wide LEGO Speed Champions F1 cars in the same vein as 76919 2023 McLaren Formula 1 Car and 76925 Aston Martin Vantage Safety Car & AMR23, and likely more larger Technic cars like 42171 Mercedes-AMG F1 W14 E Performance where the focus is on the mechanics.

Getting into some of the more weird and wonderful opportunities for LEGO Formula 1, LEGO Space also had a LEGO Art set in the form of 31212 The Milky Way Galaxy. A similar LEGO Art set has plenty of inspiration from the world of motorsports, whether recreating some of the eye-catching Formula 1 photography, a map of race tracks (perhaps with different builds to choose your favourite Grand Prix), or even profiles of famous faces from Formula 1. Brick-built mosaic of Roscoe Hamilton anyone?

LEGO Space also featured in LEGO City, which offers the chance of garages, mechanics, and grids to fill out a race track and perhaps provide a brick-built display stand or home for any future LEGO Formula 1 sets. If we were really getting speculative, you could have an apartment block from Monaco, filled with fans and looking out over a section of the track below.

Other LEGO themes that went to Space in 2024 include DREAMZzz and Friends. While these are slightly more tenuous, it’s entirely possible that 2025 could be the year that characters from those themes decide to find careers as Formula 1 drivers. LEGO DREAMZzz Formula 1 cars could result in unique sets, riffing on official liveries, turning race cars into hover cars, and truly an infinite amount of other possibilities, thanks to the creativity that’s embedded in the theme’s DNA.

LEGO Formula 1 Collectible Minifigures

Another popular part of LEGO Space was 71046 Series 26 Space. The options for a Formula 1 version are perhaps more limited when you first think about it; after all, how interesting could 12 different drivers really be?

However, it wouldn’t need to be limited to just drivers. You could include Team Principals, mechanics, fans, journalists, and a wide range of other people that make up the Formula 1 community. If the LEGO Group takes inspiration from LEGO DREAMZzz too, it wouldn’t even need to stay grounded in reality either, perhaps depicting some more fantastical drivers.

Of course, it remains to be seen whether this collection becomes a reality and, if so, what form it will take. We’ve been speculating a lot here but take it all with a pinch of salt until we get an official confirmation from the LEGO Group.
