Which LEGO Speed Champions car should get an Icons set next?

LEGO 10337 Lamborghini Countach 5000 Quattrovalvole has joined the club of Speed Champions cars and Icons sets and it may not be the last.

10337 Lamborghini Countach 5000 Quattrovalvole is the latest car to be depicted in both LEGO Speed Champions and LEGO Icons. It will join the club when it launches exclusively for Insiders on July 1, 2024, and then receive a wider release for all from July 4 for £159.99 / $179.99 / €179.99.

That club also includes the Aston Martin DB5, Ferrari F40 and Porsche 911, of which only the Porsche 911 was covered in LEGO Speed Champions first. Now, the club is evenly split thanks to the reveal of 10337 Lamborghini Countach 5000 Quattrovalvole, which follows 76908 Lamborghini Countach from 2022.

There is now plenty of precedent for LEGO Speed Champions cars to become LEGO Icons sets and the only question left is which LEGO Speed Champions model will be selected next. Since we don’t know exactly what the future holds for the theme at the time of writing, we’re going to focus only on cars that have had a LEGO Speed Champions model previously.

One option could be to complete the trifecta of LEGO cars by depicting a 1970 Dodge Charger R/T, whether inspired by The Fast and the Furious or not, with the LEGO Icons formula. The vehicle has already received 76912 Fast & Furious 1970 Dodge Charger R/T and 42111 Dom’s Dodge Charger for LEGO Speed Champions and Technic respectively and a LEGO Icons model would complete the trio of LEGO cars in the most notable scales and building systems.

Alternatively, you could argue that The Fast and the Furious has an upscaled version of 76912 Fast & Furious 1970 Dodge Charger R/T already with the LEGO Technic set. Instead, 76917 2 Fast 2 Furious Nissan Skyline GT-R (R34) may be a better choice to represent the franchise in a larger System vehicle similar to 007 and 10262 James Bond Aston Martin DB5.

The Nissan Skyline GT-R (R34) could be an interesting pick either way to see how the LEGO designers would recreate the striped livery at a bigger scale – stickers, prints or brick-built.

Looking further into LEGO Speed Champions’ history, it would be interesting to see the Hot Rod from 2016’s 75875 Ford F-150 Raptor & Ford Model A Hot Rod as we rarely see LEGO Hot Rod models, never mind at a larger scale.

For now, 10337 Lamborghini Countach 5000 Quattrovalvole is the latest member of this club and no further members are confirmed at the time of writing.

LEGO Icons 10337 Lamborghini Countach 5000 Quattrovalvole launches on July 1 exclusively for Insiders members, with a wider release taking place from July 4, retailing at £159.99 / $179.99 / €179.99.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
