The blueprint for LEGO Star Wars 75389 The Dark Falcon lies in a retiring set
LEGO Star Wars 75389 The Dark Falcon might be inspired by fresh animated content but its brick-built blueprints lie in an existing retiring set.
We’ve got our first look at 75389 The Dark Falcon thanks to European retailer Fnac and it’s clearly got its roots in an existing LEGO Star Wars set: 75257 Millennium Falcon. The LEGO Group has a long history of brick-built Falcons to pick from as inspiration for 75389 The Dark Falcon but the piece count similarities (75389’s 1,579 is pretty close to 75257’s 1,353) and the way you can access the interiors of both sets suggest that the two are built to a similar scale and structure.
Looking closely at the box images reveals that 75389 The Dark Falcon’s interior can be accessed by flipping out the upper panels, revealing rooms inside. That mirrors the very same mechanism we’ve already had in 75257 Millennium Falcon, giving us a good indication of how 75389 The Dark Falcon will work.
However, that’s not to say that this upcoming LEGO Star Wars set is just a recolour of the 2019 release. There are various added features that make 75389 The Dark Falcon truly an alternate build, from the tiny version of the Death Star’s ray on the left-hand side to the most obvious inclusion of never-before-seen minifigures.
If you want to be able to display the two sides of the Force at a similar scale, you don’t have long to get your hands on 75257 Millennium Falcon. It retires at the end of this year, meaning there are just over six months left to pick up the brick-built Falcon. Luckily, it’s also currently on sale at John Lewis, dropping the price to just £112.49 and making it the perfect time to pick it up as a companion to the upcoming 75389 The Dark Falcon.
