LEGO Ideas 21347 Red London Telephone Box officially revealed

The LEGO Group has officially revealed 21347 Red London Telephone Box, one of two LEGO Ideas sets dropping in February.

Arriving alongside 21346 Family Tree, 21347 Red London Telephone Box is available exclusively for LEGO Insiders from February 1, before going on wider sale from February 4. It’s based on a design by British builder John Cramp, and – because what LEGO set isn’t tied to an anniversary these days? – celebrates 100 years since the first red K2 Telephone Box hit the streets of London.

“The K2 red phone box is seen as a British cultural icon throughout the world, and we’re delighted that the LEGO Group is celebrating the 100th anniversary of its design with this model,” said Michael Smy, Head of Street at BT Group. “Fast forward to today and whilst communications have rapidly evolved, the iconic K2 continues to play a part in communities through BT’s Adopt a Kiosk scheme.

“As we continue to build the next generation of communication networks, we’re proud that more than 7,200 phone boxes have already been adopted across the UK, repurposed into mini libraries and life-saving defibrillators, among others.”

21347 Red London Telephone Box doesn’t include pieces to fashion it into a library or defribillator, but it does pack in a light brick, a lamppost with flowerpots, a cobbled street, a wrought-iron fence, and a street sign parodying typical London signs. As well as being able to switch between two styles of phone – retro and modern – you can bring the set right up to date by using it as a mobile phone stand.

Weighing in at 1,460 pieces total, 21347 Red London Telephone Box will retail for £99.99 in the UK, $114.99 in the US and €114.99 in Europe. The 18+ model stands 30cm tall, 19cm wide and almost 16cm deep.

21347 Red London Telephone Box launches for LEGO Insiders on February 1, and for everyone else on February 4, at LEGO.com and in LEGO Stores.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
