LEGO 41838 Family Travel Memories brings back retired concept

LEGO 41838 Family Travel Memories has been revealed and it appears to be bringing back a retired concept at a much more affordable price.

German online retailer Alternate has lifted the curtain somewhat on 41838 Family Travel Memories, inspired by a winning build from LEGO MASTERS USA Season 4. The retailer’s listing includes a few images of the model as well as a video showcasing the set, revealing an important detail.

It turns out that 41838 Family Travel Memories can be hung on a wall, without the World Wonderliner or any of the other vehicles placed on top, to display a map of the world ready for you to place the tiles. These can then showcase where you have been on holiday and where you hope to go in the future. That should sound familiar.

This is much the same as the retired LEGO Art 31203 World Map, which is the biggest LEGO set of all time by piece count. It’s an interesting idea that was only realised for a couple of years in a huge and expensive model but now, it’s back.

By bringing the concept back in a €122.90 model compared to one that was €249.99 before it retired, it means that more families will be able to afford a trip-tracking set, though it won’t take up nearly as much space on a wall. You can find out more about the retired LEGO Art set by reading our in-depth review.

It’s also worth noting that 41838 Family Travel Memories has a less stylised colour scheme and includes a variety of small vehicle models, the larger World Wonderline jet and some stands for photos and other memorabilia.

41838 Family Travel Memories is listed as launching on October 1, 2024, but has not currently been reveal on the official online store. We’re still waiting for details on regional pricing.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
