Duck, Space and Knight-themed magnets – reviewing some LEGO Insiders rewards

Available now as LEGO Insiders rewards at LEGO.com are three excellent and collectible magnets themed around the wooden duck, Lion Knights and Classic Space.

Based on three highly recognisable icons from the LEGO Group’s history, these three magnets come with display stands and are available to LEGO Insiders while stocks last, each one redeemable for a cost of 2,250 Insiders points.

Each magnet is best described as a top-quality curiosity. You don’t need any of these, but they are each so expertly devised and finished to a very high detail and design that you can’t help but appreciate them as high-end products, be they novelty or not.

The first of the designs is based on the wooden duck, representative of the LEGO Group’s earliest days when founder and master carpenter Ole Kirk Kristiansen produced wooden toys including the duck. The second captures the shield emblem from one of the longest-running castle factions the Lion Knights, whilst the third is – of course – the Classic Space logo, which continues to stand as one of the LEGO Group’s most iconic in-house themes.

As a trio these magnets serve up a nice tribute to icons of the company’s past, as well as offering up the beginnings of an already varied and quite interesting collection – it’s no coincidence that these three are numbered, and it’s safe to assume that should these prove popular then more will be on the way. Pirates needs one…

The magnets are very carefully and quite tightly packaged inside and whilst the exterior box is no less prone to damage than any other LEGO box, the contents are some of the best protected we’ve ever seen.

They arrive in three parts – a stand, a shaped backing plate with two spokes to sit in the stand, and the magnet itself which can fit the backing plate in a perfect outline. It’s a construction that means each magnet is quite an odd little item, but it gives a level of displayability to the product that isn’t otherwise there whilst still allowing the magnets themselves to be used elsewhere (they’ll look pretty nice on the fridge).

The question we come to with all LEGO Insiders rewards remains the same, though – are they worth the points haul required to redeem them?

Each one is available for an Insiders Points spend of 2,250, which is a pretty hefty amount all told, and of course even more so if you want all three. The 2,250-point total required for one magnet would take around a £275 LEGO.com/LEGO Store spend to earn in the first place and could otherwise be used to redeem around £13 or £14 in gift vouchers to put towards a LEGO.com/LEGO Store purchase.

However, of all the recent Insiders rewards we have had the privilege to review, we can say that these stand highest so far for quality and also rank pretty highly for novelty value. These look great, they are nicely finished without a blemish in sight, decently sized and excellently presented. Whether magnets are your thing or not these will likely reel you in and for once we can say you’ll be satisfied should you pick any of them up.

Each magnet is available now at the LEGO Insiders Rewards Centre while stocks last, each requiring a spend of 2,250 Insiders Points to redeem.
