LEGO Sonic the Hedgehog BrickHeadz sets revealed

The LEGO Group has revealed two new BrickHeadz sets based on Sonic the Hedgehog, expanding the brand new theme beyond minifigure-scale models.

A full wave of Sonic the Hedgehog sets is due to bow on August 1, following last year’s seemingly successful LEGO Ideas model 21331 Sonic the Hedgehog – Green Hill Zone. Those playsets (in contrast to the 18+ Ideas display model) will be joined on September 1 by two BrickHeadz statues, 40627 Sonic the Hedgehog and 40628 Miles “Tails” Prower.

The initial images of the two new LEGO BrickHeadz sets (h/t The Brick Fan) reveal heavily-stylised characters that still fit within the familiar Funko Pop!-esque template, recreating the franchise’s two most iconic characters. 40627 Sonic the Hedgehog includes 139 pieces and is the 213th BrickHeadz character, while 40628 Miles “Tails” Prower includes 131 pieces and is numbered 214.

Both sets bring a little colour to the classic BrickHeadz eye elements, giving them more warmth and character than you’d typically see from this range. They’re apparently due to retail for $9.99 each in the US, and – based on previous LEGO BrickHeadz sets – will likely cost £9.99 / €9.99 apiece in the UK and Europe. They’ve yet to appear at LEGO.com, but will presumably go live later today.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.

Well that’s some Deja-vu! I had a dream about sets like these only they were in grab bags not boxes.

Either way I’ll pick them both up to go alongside my Green Hills Zone set.
