LEGO Star Wars 2024 18+ sets have changed everything
LEGO Star Wars is forging into new territory in its 25th anniversary sets – and that has the potential to change everything for the theme moving forward.
With the launch of more midi-scale ships and the beefing up of a relatively simple playset to almost diorama-style levels of detail, the LEGO Star Wars sets coming in March are bringing plenty of new features to the table, giving us some food for thought. The presence of the trio of midi-scale ships in 75375 Millennium Falcon, 75376 Tantive IV, and 75377 Invisible Hand, as well as a smaller and more accessible display model of Artoo in 75379 R2-D2 is making detailed, shelf-ready sets more accessible to a wider audience. Not only are they less expensive, but they take up less space, lending them well to young adult or even teen collectors.
At the other end of the scale, we’ve also 75387 Boarding the Tantive IV on the way, a play-focused set with various interactive features, but one that also comes with a sturdy base and enough detail to almost hold up as a display set as well.
The lines are clearly blurring between what we would generally consider as child-centred LEGO Star Wars sets and ones meant more for older collectors. Not only is this evident from the content of the sets, but even on the actual packaging of the build themselves. Hear from Brick Fanatics‘ own Matthew digging a little deeper into why this ‘meeting in the middle’ of LEGO Star Wars sub-themes matters for the average LEGO Star Wars fan – and what it could mean down the line.
