LEGO Technic recolours are here to stay in 2024

The LEGO Group’s range of recoloured sets is sticking around in LEGO Technic in 2024 and rumour has it that more could still be on the way.

The recent reveal of 42196 Lamborghini Huracán Tecnica Orange confirms that the rumoured LEGO Technic set is real and is an exact recolour of 42161 Lamborghini Huracán Tecnica. It’s far from the first recoloured LEGO set following 77942 Fiat 500, 31144 Exotic Pink Parrot and more. Even within LEGO Technic, 42162 Bugatti Bolide Agile Blue debuted the concept of recoloured LEGO sets.

42161 Lamborghini Huracán Tecnica confirms that this concept is here to stay and part of the rumour list that featured the LEGO Technic set included 42173 Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut Grey Hypercar and 42184 Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut White Hypercar both for $49.99. Provided the rest of the rumours in that list are accurate, recolours are here to stay in LEGO Technic.

All rumoured information should be taken with caution and it would be unprecedented for two colours of the same model to arrive within the same season, summer 2024. Given that the rumoured sets have similar names and prices, it seems likely that they would be the same build but one in grey and one in white. Immediate recolours would give you an extra choice before you buy, unless you intend to buy both.

The recoloured LEGO sets were initially part of a pilot program and the continued release of these models suggests that the program was seen as a success. For now, 42196 Lamborghini Huracán Tecnica Orange is coming on April 1 for £46.99 / $49.99 / €52.99 but it has yet to be listed on the official online store. 42161 Lamborghini Huracán Tecnica is also available now in green for £46.99 / $49.99 / €52.99.
