LEGO Wicked reveal date officially confirmed
The LEGO Group has confirmed the reveal date for its LEGO Wicked sets while offering a closer look at the theme’s two new mini-doll characters.
It’s no secret that the LEGO Group is planning a wave of four sets based on the upcoming theatrical adaptation of Wicked, which lands in cinemas in November. The LEGO sets are already confirmed to be coming on October 1 – and we now know when we’ll get our first proper look at the entire wave. An updated LEGO Wicked landing page over at LEGO.com confirms the full reveal is 67 days away, which takes us to August 31, 2024.
The page also offers our best look yet at Elphaba and Glinda’s mini-dolls, with a slider now revealing what were previously just silhouetted characters in full colour. These mini-dolls are inspired specifically by the interpretation of the characters as portrayed by Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande respectively.
Galinda in particular seems to hew closely to the mini-doll in the LEGO version of the film’s trailer, suggesting the other mini-dolls in that Brickified clip may also be representative of the characters we could expect to see in the upcoming sets – including Jeff Goldblum’s Wonderful Wizard of Oz and Michelle Yeoh’s Madame Morrible. Nothing is outright confirmed beyond the existence of four products at the moment, though.
Wicked will arrive in cinemas in two parts, with the first movie dropping on November 27, and the second following in autumn 2025. The story follows the witches of Oz, and the LEGO sets will apparently be inspired by ‘moments, songs and scenes’ from the musical.
“The story of Wicked creates such an incredible experience for families, so being part of the team creating LEGO sets inspired by the upcoming movie and bringing that universe to life is hugely exciting,” Raquel Ojeda Gregorio, LEGO Wicked Design Lead at the LEGO Group, said in May. “Wicked has some of the most magical locations and characters and recreating that with LEGO bricks is a match made in Oz.
“I can’t wait for fans to see these colourful sets and hope they will enjoy unlocking their imagination, creating, and telling their own Wicked-inspired stories.”
