Rogue One characters set to return in Star Wars: Andor Season 2

Two characters who appeared in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story are reported to be making a return in the upcoming Andor Season 2.

While Star Wars fans are currently getting their weekly dose of a galaxy far, far away courtesy of The Acolyte, many more are waiting for the second season of a previous live-action show to finally arrive on Disney+.

Star Wars: Andor Season 2 is currently knee-deep in postproduction, with 12 episodes of the series rumoured to premiere on the streaming service sometime in early 2025. While little has been officially revealed regarding the upcoming second season, showrunner Tony Gilroy has already confirmed that the returning show will cover four years in Andor’s life, with major time jumps every few episodes.

Now comes word via The Playlist that two characters that previously appeared in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will be back for Andor Season 2 as well, alongside a previous member of the TV show’s cast. In a recent interview with the site, Mexican filmmaker Alonso Ruizpalacios not only stated that he had helmed the last three episodes of the upcoming series, but that he had also directed heavyweight actors, “Stellan Skarsgård, Forest Whitaker, and Ben Mendelsohn.”

Skarsgård appeared in the first season of Star Wars: Andor as the enigmatic Luthen Rael, while Whitaker and Mendelsohn starred as Saw Gerrera and Imperial Director Orson Callan Krennic in the 2016 prequel film. It’s not yet been revealed exactly which episodes the characters will be in or how their presence links Andor Season 2 to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

All three characters have been previously immortalised in LEGO minifigure form in 75338 Ambush on Ferrix, 75383 Darth Maul’s Sith Infiltrator and 75156 Krennic’s Imperial Shuttle respectively. However, only one version of each minifigure currently exists, so the potential for more iterations based on the characters’ appearances in Andor Season 2 must at least be a faint possibility.

In a 2022 interview with The Playlist, Gilroy stated“Our final scene of the show is no secret,” and that “It’s going to be (Cassian) walking across the tarmac to get in the ship to go to the Rings of Kafrene to meet Daniel Mays’ (Tivik informant) character that Cassian kills in Rogue One, because he’s become a liability. He’s going there.”

Lucasfilm has yet to reveal an official premiere date for Star Wars: Andor Season 2, so fans will have to wait a little longer to find out when the show will be returning to Disney+.
