Third time’s (hopefully) the charm for LEGO A-Team
If you have a problem, if no-one else can help, and if the LEGO Ideas crew decides that the third time’s the charm, maybe you can one day buy the LEGO A-Team.
Henk van der Linde has already tried to get his LEGO Ideas A-Team project over the line before, and has a groundswell of support from the community behind him: 10,000 people have now voted to bring the ‘80s classic to life in bricks three times over (first in 2021, then in 2022, and now in 2024). The latest iteration sneaks into the third 2023 review as the door slowly slams shut on the qualification period.
This one’s a little different from its two predecessors, though. Presumably in an effort to distinguish it from his previous two projects, the builder has added Faceman’s sports car to BA’s iconic van, for ‘double the heat, double the fun’. The 850-piece model is being pitched as not only a way to bring BA Baracus, Hannibal, Faceman and Howling Mad Murdock to shelves, but also to launch an entire theme of movie-inspired eight-stud-wide vehicles.
Should we just gloss over the fact that already exists in LEGO Speed Champions? Maybe. The LEGO Group probably will, even if it does decide to give the green light to van der Linde’s project. The question right now is: will this finally be the right time for LEGO The A-Team to make it to shelves? The height of the LEGO Group’s nostalgia for ‘80s properties has arguably passed, but we do still have Back to the Future and Ghostbusters sets on shelves.
The A-Team might find their way into LEGO Stores this time round, then – the property is clearly not off the table for the LEGO Ideas platform to still accept submissions – but it’s up against a steadily growing number of projects in contention in this round. Still, the third 2023 review must surely be closing any day now…

- I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
