Wyldfyre is getting an all-new LEGO NINJAGO: Dragons Rising series

Before the second part of LEGO NINJAGO: Dragons Rising Season 2 starts, a canon campaign will explore Wyldfyre through animation and more.

Out of the many new characters introduced for the second season of LEGO NINJAGO Dragons Rising, Wyldfyre is being expanded on through a new, canon short series, but this is much bigger than the likes of the Elemental Mech shorts. Note that this report will cover major spoilers for the first 10 episodes of LEGO NINJAGO: Dragons Rising Season 2, but will not spoil anything for the second part of the season.

In a roundtable with LEGO fan media including Brick Fanatics, members of the LEGO Group and the LEGO NINJAGO team including Tommy Kalmar discussed the upcoming campaign that will see Wyldfyre return to the Wyldness as she deals with the loss of Kai.

Wyldfyre: Return to the Wyldness is a multimedia NINJAGO campaign that takes place after episode 10 of LEGO NINJAGO: Dragons Rising Season but before episode 11 and will explain what happens to Wyldfyre after Kai is trapped away from the new ninja. It will include a series of animated shorts, voice clips, in-character posts and more on the LEGO Insiders Club.

You can watch the trailer for the mini-series on the LEGO Insiders Club, but it has also been re-uploaded to YouTube by fans.

“My team was approached by Tommy’s team more than a year ago with this opportunity and we’ve been brewing it up ever since,” shared senior kids content lead Victoria Deborah. “We were given a lot of trust and free reign within the NINJAGO lore to think about what experiences Wyldfyre might have that lead her to, eventually, being in a better place in episode 11.”

Everything in the campaign is canon to LEGO NINJAGO: Dragons Rising and while it has been designed to not be required viewing, it was teased that it will help explain how Wyldfyre has changed in the next chapter. She has a new minifigure in four 2024 sets that has yet to appear in the main animated series too.

A trio of baby dragons accompany Wyldfyre on her journey back to the Wyldness, which were chosen to both appeal to a younger audience thanks to their adorable nature and to give Wyldfyre a sense of responsibility that she has never experienced before.

“We thought about how Wyldfyre would change for a long time and found a solution that we think is best – baby dragons – because everyone loves baby dragons.” continued Deborah. “We have the pleasure and the honour to take Wyldfyre back to her dragon roots into the Wyldness and explore that part that we haven’t seen much of in the TV show yet. We had a lot of fun thinking of different creatures and situations that she might run into here.”

Don’t expect to see much of the Wyldness beyond the Lava Wastes, including Chima, though this fiery region of the area was only lightly explored in the first season of LEGO NINJAGO Dragons Rising anyway.

Wyldfyre: Return to the Wyldness should start by July 17 at the latest on the LEGO Insiders Club. Aside from a few small parts of the multimedia campaign, nothing is expected to be released on other platforms that aren’t owned and operated. by the LEGO Group.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
